Clay Creations: Seed Bomb Workshop for Young Land Stewards"
Date: September 21
Time: 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Ages: 8-12
Description:
In this free, hands-on workshop led by local ceramic artist Amy Snider, young people aged 8-12 will have the opportunity to delve into the rich geological history of Regina and develop a physical connection to the land by creating seed bombs from local clay and flower seeds. Inspired by KC Adam's exhibition owîceskoyakinikewak, kids will learn about the geology of Regina and how to identify, dig, process, and shape local clay. They will also connect to the powerful ideas of nurturing and care Adam's presents in her exhibition by fashioning seed bombs, which can be thrown to spread native flowering plants on otherwise barren land, promoting growth and stewardship of the land. This workshop aims to spark creativity and curiosity in young minds while promoting a positive and constructive way to interact with nature. This event is presented in partnership with the Ledginham Herbarium.
Please be aware that SaskCulture will be sending a photographer to document this event. Please download and complete a photo release form for your child or complete one at the event. No photos will be taken of youth whose parent or guardian has not completed the form.

KC Adams (Ininnew/Anishinaabe/British) is known for her powerful photographic works that confront racism and negative stereotypes of Indigenous people, including the series "Cyborg Hybrids" and "Perception." She will present her work and discuss her practice, which encourages meaningful dialogue about the impact of colonialism, at the University of Regina Department of Visual Arts' Art for Lunch lecture series.
Adams' talk will resonate with a diverse audience, as she uniquely merges media art with ancient techniques and knowledge, which she has rediscovered as an adult. Recently, Adams has been using clay as a tool for change and to reclaim personal history. Her art also delves into storytelling, our connections to plants and water, and our role in the universe.
This event is offered in partnership with the faculty of Media, Art & Performance and includes ASL interpretation.
NIPIY: interactive, participatory sound event
Date: September 27
Time: 4:00 - 5:00 PM
Place: Art Gallery of Regina, 2420 Elphinstone Street
Description:
Artist KC Adams invites all members of the public to participate in an experience that reveals the profound connections between people and the natural world through her interactive, participatory project "Nipiy." "Nipiy" means water.
Caress clay vessels and sonically fill ceramic vessels with auditory representations of water using artist-designed electronics in this free sound event. The pots used to generate and amplify sound are similar to those from Adams' exhibition owîceskoyanakinikewak, which is notable for their creation method. Employing an experimental archaeological process, Adams has meticulously recreated vessels historically crafted from the land of this place by ancient peoples. The rounded shape of these pots is reminiscent of a woman's belly swollen with a child. As pots hold water, the womb holds liquid, and the connection to women as water-keepers becomes strikingly evident.
Through touch, we are invited to experience human-nature relationships and appreciate women's age-old role as stewards of the waters that nurture us all.

We regret to inform you that October 5th's free Culture Days workshop, "Unearthing Traditions of Working with Local Clay," has been postponed due to extremely high winds. The safety and comfort of our participants are our top priority, and we believe it is best to reschedule the workshop for a better day.
The new date for the second day of this workshop is Saturday, October 12, from 2 to 5 PM. We will gather at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre/the Art Gallery of Regina at 2 PM and then move into Les Sherman Park to conduct the outdoor firing. The firing day might be the best part of this workshop!
We encourage you to join us next Saturday to fire your clay pieces in an outdoor fire that will transform them into pottery. Enjoy hot chocolate or hot tea as you tend to the fire for your creations and socialize with fellow workshop participants. We recommend bringing camp chairs to the fire to make the experience more enjoyable.
This unique opportunity to connect with Regina's natural resources is open to adults of all skill levels and is sponsored by Culture Days (SaskCulture funded by SaskLotteries) and presented in partnership with the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society.
If you cannot join us, we will fire your ceramic pieces for you; please contact the gallery for pick up.
For more information, please call 306-522-5940.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope to see you at the rescheduled workshop.
