The gallery opened in
1974 as an experimental satellite of the Norman Mackenzie Gallery. Two
years later, members of the community formed the Rosemont Art Gallery
Society Inc. to assume responsibility for its operation. In 1984, the
Gallery entered into a partnership arrangement with the City of Regina
to take over the gallery space in the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre,
a busy studio facility owned and operated by the City. The gallery occupies
a 1,554 square foot exhibition space in the Centre along with an administrative
area and storage facilities.
In May 2005, the gallery changed its name from the Rosemont Art Gallery
to the Art Gallery of Regina.
The Art Gallery of Regina and the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Cenre are
located along Wascana Creek in Regina's Les Sherman Park. Access to
the parking lot is available from 15th Avenue and McTavish Street. The
facility is entirely wheelchair accessible.
